My Blog: my words and photos +
About me ~
Bilingualism describes my childhood years – indeed, ‘bilingualism’ meant nothing at all to us… we spoke as our parents talked! Nowadays, I’m a parent and grandparent, and truly conscious that my youth’s world was different from our grandchildren’s world! I begin with the word ‘Bilingualism‘, but for us: “being between two minds” had more realism than being a metaphorical saying!
Most of my reading and writing’s via this second language: Beurla/English – while I learned and practiced in reading and writing (being “Mainlandified“, perhaps? 😉) My Primary School education etc. Being experienced in a semi-foreign language… however, it eventually became my mainly used language; while my only experience of official Gaelic tuition happened in Oban High school and that was less than useful – yet I felt that this must have been my own fault?!
My last type of employment was as a Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor – simply an ‘ADI’, as we called each other. . I didn’t leave the profession… It left me, due to a Road Traffic Accident that annihilated the car and my business –thankfully, no injuries, bar my bruising and scratches. My employment and lifestyle were changed in an instance; however, my life’s good, if not better than ever before?!

Photography – Poetry – Prose?
Having predilections, and who doesn’t?
My earlier years – ‘ewenart’ – username,
To Art-related websites I’d keenly visit;
Love painting, viewing is much the same!
The family knows and shares the same feelings,
Especially granddaughter: “I’m an artist”;
We’ll hear said as beloved Keira sings:
Mispronounced, is her ‘Poetchers’ list!
Happy with ‘GP’ and ‘Poetcher’ credo,
Emerged from grandchildren like Dylan,
First grandson, and little sister, so,
Childhood’s brief — too short a span!
Dylan’s Primary schooling’s like yesterday,
He was a wee one himself; now a grown man;
“I’m in High school”, our Keira will say;
Seeing bias in favour of something? CAN!

There’s no plan of action for my Blog, and perhaps it’s time to talk about a planned blog?
Most of Ewen’s Blog articles will tend to be more reactive than proactive, much like his hobbies and pastimes… perhaps that’s as much as can be said about this fledgeling venture, so far? Necessarily, The tone of this opening paragraph needs to be relatively muted – quiet and soft, but not too curtailed – remaining ready to vary in a suitable style and manner ~
Firstly, as a hobby writer – not a professional one – I’ll sometimes ponder the jobs I’ve had which ranged from being a young worker for West Highland Crofters and Farmers Ltd. And the other interesting and educational employments; eventually, becoming a qualified DSA ADI: Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor – or ADI, which we called ourselves… that profession ended in 2014..
Nowadays, I’m in retirement from paid employment, but as busy as I’ve ever been!; furthermore, my current workplace sits to the rear of our house and it was designed and mainly built by our son Scott, who now lives on their croft in Carloway, Lewis, in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland… anyway, while this’s too big a story to tell here and it would require a book rather than a few paragraphs! This retirement is something that is not unique in any way, of course, but when it occurs it may feel for the better or worse? ~ happily, I’ve certainly found for the better!
Secondly, I’m thinking of the Parliamentary Election and the recent launch of Alex Salmond’s Alba Party which will be active in time for this year’s parliamentary elections: It has decided not to stand candidates for constituency seats calling for supporters to vote for the SNP in that part of the ballot; Mr Salmond’s party may win about 10 – 12 % of the party-list vote – enough to get up to 2 seats in each of Scotland’s 8 regions is, therefore, possible, and the majority would at the expense of the Conservatives, Labour and the Liberal Democrats... sounds very appealing!
Unsurprisingly, there are a mixture of reactions and ‘knee-jerk’ comments which demonstrates a lack of political wisdom or intelligence about this matter! My personal observations may sound biased as I’ve been a member of the SNP since my teens; yet, although we’re familiar with “a week is a long time in politics” – Today’s politics have “hyper-morphed” – coining new terminology?
Minimalism’s a philosophy that my wife, Rosemary, and I love in life; personally, I enjoy the pleasure of reading, writing, occasionally writing poetry from time to time… Indeed, it’s somehow threading through the Morrison branch of our family and seems to be a reactionary part of our lives… Among the arts, I love art-painting, drawing and suchlike ~ indeed, my username is ‘ewenart’ and when I recently used it online, it opened my ‘Ewenart’site – Photography, Painting and Poetry’… Enough said, perhaps?
“There are occasions in the existence of any nation that seem crucial to the country’s development and its future direction;
and it is only with the benefit of two or three decades of historical hindsight that we are able to properly look back and see these moments for what they were – pivotal staging posts, junctions at which paths to alternative futures stretched out before us; The path is taken – and the path not taken”… with grateful thanks to ‘Freedom Of Independence‘ and a recent article.
A small paragraph, yet a political statement; but one that’s CENSORED? Dictatorship and NO free speech! ~
Scotland, you are to remain the colony of YOUR masters in WESTMINSTER; that is what England’s parliament DICTATES! ~ Otherwise: saor(aibh) Alba! =free Scotland!
Freedom of speech is a principle that supports the freedom of an individual or a community to articulate their opinions and ideas without fear of retaliation… however, on 17/4/2021, I was denied that freedom on my Facebook pages!? Absolutely UNCONSCIONABLE
Not in harmony or in keeping with the surroundings or other aspects of something; this is generally used regarding clothing items, furnishing and so forth – however, amateur writers and/or readers are unsettled when one’s written piece(s) is/are censored? This has happened today, regarding a paragraph of mine – which had received numerous likes!?
I’m a retired professional Driving Instructor, who’s now a hobby writer of poems, essay-like articles and occasionally, reactive comments. Evidently, any lack of honest, honourable political philosophy and behaviour cannot be ignored! Who mentioned the so-called ‘UK’?
Inescapably, Politics had entered my soul in my early teens, and that wasn’t yesterday; in fact, I’m now a happily retired grandfather! I’m known as ‘GP’ since our grandson, Dylan, was a wee boy… grandchildren are delightful in every way, yet when I told wee Dylan: “when a young lady’s with us, you should just call me “GP”… since then, that’s what he called me”; and so does his sister Keira, now!
Furthermore, I’m repeating: “Not in harmony or in keeping with the surroundings or other aspects of something;” such as Alba = Scotland is both different languages, but actually the same definition!
